What is Geocheating?

Geocheating is not necessarily cheating in the traditional sense. Geocheating enhances the geocaching experience as geocachers recieve various levels of hints ranging from additional cryptic information to specific cache locations. The geocheater can choose the level of information s/he receives.

Who Geocheats?

The typical geocheater is a geocacher with a few failed attempts at finding a particular cache.

Does Geocheating take the fun out of Geocaching?

One doesn't have to geocheat in order to geocache. For most, the search required for geocaching is most of the fun. However, we've all had those caches that you just couldn't find. Instead of e-mailing the owner or previous finders, one may check for geohints at geocheating.com. There are also many geocachers that simply enjoy the journey and do not wish to spend much time on location. Access to hints and outright descriptions of locations and containers only enhance the enjoyment of such cachers as it allows them to enjoy the journey, without the hassle of an in debth micro search. Also, not all caches contain geocheats.

Are Geocheats avaliable for every cache?

Geocheats are mostly avaliable for the more difficult caches as the easier ones are usually found quickly with little or no help. Also, newer caches may not have existing geocheats simply because hints have not been submitted.

Do the hints simply give away the cache location?

No. Not all hints give away the cache location. There are various levels of hints ranging from cryptic clues to outright locaiton spoilers (refer to the table below). Each geocacher is free to choose how many hints and what level hints s/he is exposed to. For some geocachers, all it takes is a cryptic hint while others simply want to know the answer. Geocheating allows you to choose which level or "cheating" you want to participate in.
